The Tri-State Kidney & Hypertension Clinic treats patients who are diagnosed with kidney diseases and/or hypertension as well as patients requiring renal replacement therapy, which includes dialysis and renal transplant patients.
You may be referred to a nephrology specialist for reasons such as:
Acute renal failure, or a sudden loss of kidney function
Chronic kidney disease, or declining renal function, usually with an continuous rise in creatinine
Hematuria, or the presence of blood in your urine
Proteinuria, or the loss of protein, especially albumin, in your urine
Kidney stones, usually only recurrent stone formers
Chronic or recurrent urinary tract infections
Hypertension that has failed to respond to multiple forms of anti-hypertensive medication, or that could have a secondary cause
Electrolyte disorders, or an acid/base imbalance
Admission to Tri-State Kidney & Hypertension is for patients 18 years of age and older through referral only. Once your primary care provider has referred you to Tri-State Kidney & Hypertension, a New Patient packet will be mailed to you for completion.
Please return the completed forms in the postage-paid return envelope as soon as possible so we can complete your admission process quickly.
Please bring your current medications in their original bottles with you to your first appointment.

Onder Orgul, MD is a board certified Nephrologist and Internist. In 1991, he received his Medical Doctorate from Hacettepe University, in Ankara, Turkey. He went on to complete his Internal Medicine Residency at State University of New York at Buffalo in Buffalo, NY. Additionally, he completed his Nephrology Fellowship at Johns Hopkins University in 1999. Dr. Orgul brings 20 years of experience in nephrology. He has been working with Tri-State Memorial Hospital & Medical Campus periodically since 2013.
Denise Haivas, MD, graduated in 2012 from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Timisoara, Romania. She went on to complete her Internal Medicine residency at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 2017. Additionally, she completed her fellowship in Nephrology at the University of Colorado in 2019. Denise Haivas is looking forward to practicing medicine in a smaller community, and she is excited about this opportunity in the Lewis-Clark Valley. She has many outdoor interests, some of which include gardening and hiking.

James Onorato, MD, Ph.D, received his Doctorate of Philosophy in Pharmacology from Case Western Reserve University in 1982, his Doctorate of Medicine in 1984 from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, and completed his residency in General Internal Medicine at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC in 1987. He completed his fellowship in Nephrology at the Duke University Medical Center in 1988. Dr. Onorato is a member of the American Society of Nephrology and has over 25 years of experience in Nephrology. Dr. Onorato enjoys reading books, grilling, and shopping with his wife.
